🏠 Bilt Blue Card: The No-Annual-Fee Card That Turns Your Rent Into Airline Points
Rent is the largest bill most people in the United States pay every month, and for years it earned nothing. Paying a landlord by credit card usually meant a 2.5% to 3% processing fee, which wiped out any rewards. The Bilt Blue Card is built around that gap: it pays your rent with no transaction fee, charges no annual fee, and can earn up to 1.25 points per dollar of rent. Those points transfer to airline programs such as United MileagePlus and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. The catch is that the rent rate is not automatic. It depends on how much else you put on the card each month, and this guide explains that rule before anything else.
What the card is
Bilt Blue is the no-annual-fee card in Bilt's redesigned lineup, launched in January 2026 and issued by Column N.A. on the Mastercard network. It earns 1 point per dollar on everyday purchases and up to 1.25 points per dollar on rent or mortgage payments made through Bilt, with no foreign transaction fees. Bilt also offers the Obsidian ($95 a year) and Palladium ($495 a year) cards; Blue is the one to start with if you mainly want rent to earn something.
Rent does not use your credit line
Under the 2026 design, rent paid through Bilt is pulled from the bank account you link, usually within a day, rather than charged against your credit limit. That has two practical effects. A $2,000 rent payment does not eat into your available credit, so your utilization stays low. And you are not borrowing to pay rent, so there is no interest on it. Bilt can pay your landlord through their online portal, by Venmo, or by mailing a check, so it works even if your landlord never heard of Bilt.
The rule that decides your rent points
How many points your rent earns depends on your other spending on the card in the same billing cycle, measured against that month's rent. Spend at least 25% of your rent on everyday purchases and rent earns 0.5 points per dollar; 50% earns 0.75; 75% earns 1; and 100% or more earns the full 1.25. Below 25%, you get a flat 250 points. With $2,000 rent, putting $2,000 of groceries, gas and bills on the card earns 2,500 points on rent, while putting only $300 on it earns 250. If you already put most of your spending on one card, this rule costs you nothing. If you do not, that low number is what you should expect.
The second route: Bilt Cash
Instead of the tiers, you can choose to earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases and spend that cash to unlock rent points, at $30 of Bilt Cash per 1,000 points, up to the same 1.25 points per dollar. Unlocking the full 2,500 points on $2,000 rent takes $75 of Bilt Cash. New cardholders get $100 of Bilt Cash on approval, which is enough to unlock a few thousand rent points in the first month. Most Bilt Cash expires at the end of each calendar year, with only $100 rolling over, so use it rather than save it.
Turning points into flights
Bilt points transfer 1:1 to more than two dozen airline and hotel programs. For flights to Asia, the useful ones include United MileagePlus, which can book Star Alliance partners such as EVA Air, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, and Japan Airlines. Hotel partners include World of Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton and IHG. The Points Guy values Bilt points at about 2.2 cents each when transferred well, so 2,500 points a month, or 30,000 a year, is worth roughly $660 at that rate. Treat that as a ceiling: redeeming points for simple things like statement credits is worth far less.
Who should get it
It makes the most sense if you rent and can move most of your everyday spending onto this card, or if you already have a Chase or Amex card for categories and want Bilt only for rent and Bilt Cash. It makes less sense if you rarely use a credit card, since the rent points shrink to a flat 250, or if you want strong category bonuses, which Blue does not have outside Bilt's own dining and travel partners. As with any card, pay the full balance every month; the variable APR runs from about 26.74% to 34.74%.
Frequently asked questions
Does Bilt charge a fee to pay rent?
No. Rent and mortgage payments made through Bilt have no transaction fee, and the Bilt Blue Card has no annual fee.
Do I earn points on every dollar of rent?
Only if your other spending on the card that month reaches your rent amount, which earns 1.25 points per dollar, or you unlock it with Bilt Cash. With little other spending you earn a flat 250 points.
Does paying rent through Bilt use my credit limit?
No. Under the 2026 card design, rent is pulled from your linked bank account and does not use your credit line.
What if my landlord does not accept credit cards?
Bilt can pay through your landlord's portal, by Venmo, or by mailing a check, so the landlord does not need to accept cards.
